Washington, DC is home to many of the best museums in the world, many of which are national institutions or part of the Smithsonian Institution. Looking forward to 2019, these are the exhibits we are most excited for.

Artists Respond: American Art & The Vietnam War, 1065 - 1975 American Art Museum, March 15 - August 18

This upcoming exhibit at the Smithsonian American Art Museum will explore artistic reactions to the Vietnam War that were created during the height of the conflict. One of the most devastating and wide-reaching events in our country's history, the war prompted a vast body of visual and critical works. Smithsonian American Art Museum. 8th and F streets.

In Mid-Sentence Portrait Gallery, May 3 - March 29, 2020

In Mid-Sentence is an exhibit coming to the National Portrait Gallery that will look at a selection of photographs from the museum’s permanent collection. The themes consistent among the chosen pictures will include moments of unique communication like intimate confessions, private jokes, public speeches, political arguments and more. The David H. Koch Hall of Fossils—Deep Time National Museum of Natural History, June 8 - Permanent

This new permanent exhibit will open at the National Museum of Natural History in Washington, DC this coming June. It will present the museum's incomparable collection of over 46 million fossils, accompanied by the most present scientific research on evolution from the time of dinosaurs through the modern age. One Life: Marian Anderson Portrait Gallery, June 28 - May 17, 2020

This exhibits looks beyond the formative and iconic performance by Marian Anderson on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in 1939. Looking through here career, it shows how she worked with artists, concert promoters, and others on her way towards becoming a civil rights icon. Archival materials like paintings and photographs show her many roles as a singer, diplomat, and activist. National Portrait Gallery. 8th and F streets.

Pat Steir Hirshhorn Museum, October 24 - May 10, 2020

This will be the largest site-specific exhibition ever to celebrate the work of abstract painter Pat Steir. The brilliant craftswoman behind the famous Waterfall paintings will showcase several more additions to the series on the inner-circle galleries of the gorgeous Hirshhorn Museum.
